Accounts, pricing, and payment
How does pricing work? Do you post prices online?
We are a wholesale distributor, so most of our pricing is account based and quote based. Contractors, home builders, OEMs, and maintenance departments can open a charge account and receive contractor pricing; our credit application is available under the Resources tab. For project work, our quotes desk prices gear, lighting packages, and takeoffs individually.
Residential lighting is priced and available to shop online right now under our Shop Residential Lighting tab. Online ordering for electrical supplies and commercial lighting is in development. Homeowners and walk-in customers are always welcome at the counter and in the lighting showroom, and we will quote any item on the spot. All prices are in U.S. dollars.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards, cash, and checks at the counter. Established customers can purchase on account with standard terms. Card payments are processed securely through our payment system.
Can I open a contractor or builder account?
Yes. We open charge accounts for electrical contractors, home builders, OEMs, and the service and maintenance departments of schools, municipalities, and corporations. Download the credit application under the Resources tab, or ask at the counter and we will walk you through it.
Delivery and pickup
Is delivery really free? What is the delivery area?
Yes. Delivery is always free within our 55-mile service radius of Chicago Heights, which covers the south suburbs, most of Chicagoland, and northwest Indiana. Our trucks make deliveries throughout the area every business day, including jobsite deliveries.
Free delivery is designed for contractor, account, and project orders. For a single small item, will-call pickup at the counter is usually your fastest option. For locations outside the 55-mile radius, call us and we will figure out the best way to get you your material.
Can I call ahead and have my order ready for pickup?
Absolutely, and our regulars do it every day. Call the counter with your list and we will have it pulled, staged, and ready when you arrive. The contractor counter opens at 6:30 AM Monday through Friday so early crews can grab material and get to the job.
How fast can I get material?
Most in-stock material can be delivered same day or next day within our service area, and pickup orders are often ready within the hour. Timing depends on the size of the order and where you are, so call us and we will tell you straight what we can do.

What do HJE and HJ stand for?
Helsel-Jepperson Electrical, Incorporated. Customers have called us HJE and HJ for generations, and you will hear all three used interchangeably. Same family, same counter, since 1946.
Are you an authorized distributor for the brands you carry?
Yes. We are an authorized distributor for the manufacturers on our line card, and we stock many of those lines on the shelf in Chicago Heights. If you need proof of authorization for a spec or a submittal, ask us and we will provide it.
We also stock and can source select products beyond our line card; if you do not see a brand listed, ask us.
Do you have customer reviews I can read?

Do you offer lighting consultations?
Yes, and they are free. Our lighting showroom team offers consultations and house-selection appointments for builders and homeowners at no charge. Call or use the contact form to set up a time.

What information do you provide for procurement and vendor registration?
Helsel-Jepperson Electrical, Incorporated is an Illinois corporation located at 103 N. Halsted Street, Chicago Heights, IL 60411, in business since 1946. Our NAICS code is 423610, electrical apparatus and equipment merchant wholesalers. We serve municipal, school district, and corporate purchasing departments throughout the south suburbs and can provide W-9 and vendor registration paperwork on request.

What are your hours, and are you open on holidays?
The contractor counter is open 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday and 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday. We are closed on major holidays; current holiday closures are posted on our Hours and Location page.
